Today I will be discussing five accessories that I use for Smartphone filmmaking. Barring two gadgets all are inexpensive. The two gadgets that are slightly higher priced are Three Axis Gimbal and Ring Light.
Remember it is not the gadgets that are most important, but your own skill and expertise. Gadgets do play a role in enhancing your part, but the most important thing is your expertise.
SMARTPHONE : The first and most important gadget is your smartphone . Before using the phone for filmmaking, ensure that there are enough space for recording videos. Also clean the lens with a soft cloth . Remember to put your phone on airplane mode so that incoming calls does not disturb your process of filmmaking.
THREE AXIS GIMBAL: It is used to get smooth, steady and beautiful cinematic shots. It is not very costly and is available in the range of Rs 7000 onwards. When you are walking , running or riding and shooting with you smartphone, the visuals become shaky. But when you use the gimbal, you get a smooth and steady shots. The three axis gimbal stabilizes the tilt, pan, and roll of a camera. I will be making a separate videos on how to use the gimbal. If you don’t want to spend money on gimbal then you could use your selfie stick and practice getting steady shots.
EXTERNAL MICROPHONE : This you can get it on amazon and it is not expensive . It is very useful in smartphone filmmaking to get high quality audio. I use Boya mike which is available in the range of Rs 1200 to 14000.
TRIPOD: A tripod only takes seconds to erect and adjust, yet it can support your camera in the perfect position for however long you wish, helping you to take great images. Using a tripod will reduce unwanted movement of the camera and you get steady visuals.
RING LIGHT : The fifth gadget that I use is Ring light which can be fixed on a tripod. It provides dramatic and professional look for filmmaking. It will cost around Rs 1600/-
For Editing you could use a good mobile software. I prefer to use Kinemaster as it is user-friendly.
