MICRO LESSON 12 : OVER-THE-SHOULDER SHOT

In this micro lesson, let us learn another critical camera angle which is called Over the Shoulder Shot or OTS. This is a very common shot that you might have observed in many movies and television serials. The only thing is you may not be aware of its nomenclature and technicalities.

OTS is a camera angle used to show an emotive back-and-forth conversation between two characters.

Here the camera is placed above the back of the shoulder and head of a subject and it alternates from one person to another.

It is a common way to film the dialogues in films or television serials To understand this concept of OTS, watch this mini clip from three Bollywood movies Three Idiots, Hungama, and Mr. Natwarlal.

Next time you are watching a TV serial or a film. Please be on the lookout for this camera angle.
