I have been a television journalist since the last over two decades. I have been on the ground zero in some of the biggest breaking news . I have covered major stories such as the Mumbai terror attack, German Bakery blast, devastating floods, landslides, general and state elections and several other big news.
I have been a witness to the technology transition taking place in the electronic media world from Outdoor broadcasting vans to Smartphone Journalism which is also knows as Mobile Journalism or MOJO. Now my new found passion is coaching and mentoring students on two aspects. One is Smartphone Filmmaking and the other is Smartphone Journalism or Mobile Journalism which is also called MOJO. Some of my young students have become successful documentary makers and successful You Tubers. One of my nine year old student has started his own You Tube channel which is getting good tractions. For Smartphone filmmaking, age is no bar.
On knowing that I am a Smartphone filmmaking coach one of the student asked me whether I am teaching people how to become a You Tuber. My answer is I am teaching Smartphone filmmaking and not a course on how to be a You Tuber.
What is the difference? Smartphone filmmaking is a broader subject. It includes all aspects of filmmaking and cinematography. A person who understands Smartphone filmmaking can also be a successful You Tuber. But not necessarily the other way round..
Filmmaking is the process by which a film or a movie is made. It involves storyboard, screenwriting, casting, shooting, preproduction and post production.
And what is Smartphone filmmaking? It is nothing but doing all these activities using a Smartphone. This is what I and my husband Chandran Iyer, who is the Editor and Publisher of Corporate Tycoons magazine are doing. We are coaching and mentoring students on this topic
My favourite tagline is “If you have a Smartphone and are Smart Enough in using your Smartphone, then Your Future is in your Hands”.
