When I joined as a TV journalist in July 2003 and was told that I will have to handle camera myself, I instantly agreed. Joining TV as a journalist wasn't my dream but a friend from NDTV Shruti Verma Singh pursued me to join Television. Having worked in Print and Radio I thought why not try the new medium?
I was given the camera unit with a basic training for a week. Since then camera has been the best professional buddy. I have worked on many cameras since then, even after getting a cameraman from office; but really started liking smartphone for some reasons.
Affordability : A smartphone with decent camera is available and affordable to anybody. While good professional camera is above a lakh, one can get buy smartphone for 15 to 20 thousand.
Availability : Smartphone has almost become an extension of our body which we carry most of the times. There is no chance of missing a visual or a special moment. Ease of handling : You don't need expensive professional training to handle the Smartphone camera. The settings are easy. Image stabilizers are inbuilt. On auto mode you get a good picture and video without much efforts. Most of the controls are at your fingertip.
Free software: for editing your story there are many free software available. Also if you want to have better quality visuals and more controls at fingertip there are many camera software available. Like DSLR, Pausecam, iMovie ....
Audio recording facility : There are number of audio recording software like Wavepad which you can use to create audio library of your own and record voice-over. Free editing software : Number of video editing software like Kinemaster, project director, Inshot, Filmora are available for editing.
